What is the Durham Middlefield Local Wellness Coalition? The Durham Middlefield Local Wellness Coalition (DMLWC) is comprised of individuals and organizations that partner and volunteer their time to create a healthier community. The group has a wide representation from the community; schools, businesses, faith organizations, physicians, local government officials, law enforcement, media, parents, youth, and other community members.
Durham Middlefield Youth & Family Services supports DMLWC by supplying leadership and staff support to coordinate and facilitate the group. DMLWC first met in 1996 and was welcomed by a shared community belief in the importance of collaborating to create a healthier, substance free community. Since that time, we have enjoyed the involvement of civic leaders, businesses, non-profits and individuals, all of whom share a passion for wellness. Mission of the DMLWC: The Durham Middlefield Local Wellness Coalition aims to reduce the harm of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and other drugs in our towns through community action, education, support and collaboration. How Can I Get Involved?Everyone is invited to attend and participate at any level.
You do not need to attend coalition meetings to be a part of our efforts! Become part of Durham Middlefield Local Wellness Coalition today! |

Search Institute has studied Developmental Assets in the lives of millions of young people across the United States and around the world. Research consistently shows that young people from all backgrounds do better when they have a strong foundation of these strengths in their lives.
Grounded in extensive research in youth development, resiliency, and prevention, it identifies:
- The supports, opportunities, and relationships young people need across all aspects of their lives (called “external assets”); and
- The personal skills, self-perceptions, and values they need (called “internal assets”) to make good choices, take responsibility for their own lives, and be independent and fulfilled.
- More likely to thrive now and in the future
- Less likely to engage in a wide range of high-risk behaviors
- More likely to be resilient in the face of challenges
